Graffiti is prevalent in many corners of the Chinatown and Gastown neighborhood. Since 2020, there have been multiple incidents of anti-Asian graffiti or vandalism. We have received numerous complaints from local merchants, community members and visitors about the ongoing graffiti problem that has plagued the neighborhood. While some graffiti may be seemingly harmless, those messages with a darker, hidden agenda can invoke fear and create unrest among the communities.

The graffiti removal program was first launched in June 2022. Our program was strategically designed to fit our catchment area. Our efforts focused on removing graffiti content containing anti-Asian, xenophobic, or other explicit messages.
