Vision
Our vision is to be a leader in community policing and the cornerstone of policing services to Chinese speaking people.
Mission Statement
Our mission is to work with the Chinese community, the Vancouver Police Department and other service providers to enhance the safety and quality of life for Chinese speaking people.
Mandate
Our mandate is to foster and strengthen positive relationships and facilitate communication between, the police and Chinese speaking people, thus enhancing the accessibility of police services to the Chinese community. We deliver crime prevention programs in partnership
with the Vancouver Police Department, local community associations,
schools and seniors centres to help reduce the incidence and impact
of crime. We provide assistance to Chinese speaking
victims of crime from the initial reporting, through referral to
other agencies, to participation in the criminal justice system,
including translation and interpretation at all stages. Within the
Chinatown area we maintain patrol programs which lead to a safer,
more vibrant environment for local businesses, residents and visitors.
History
Our centre was founded in 1992 by the Chinese Benevolent Association,
the Chinese Cultural Centre, S.U.C.C.E.S.S., the Vancouver Chinatown
Merchants Association and the Chinese Freemasons. We started with
a small office on Main Street, in the heart of Chinatown. Since
then we have moved twice and are now located at 118 Keefer Street
at the street level of the Chinatown Parking Plaza. We are now open
seven days a week with two full time and five part time coordinators.
We have a large group of dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers to
help deliver a wide variety of programs.
